Grief Counseling
Grief changes us. But you weren’t prepared for how.
Maybe someone you love died and believe you should be past it by now. Or maybe a relationship ended and you think you should be over it.
Grief might also follow a big move or change, infertility, a difficult diagnosis, or the loss of a reality you’d dreamed of.
You may recognize some of this:
Interacting with others is really draining
Small talk feels meaningless
Your sleep is disrupted and/or not restful
You feel tired and have less interest in things or people you care about
You experience intense emotions in waves—some that makes sense and some that don’t
You can’t stop thinking about the person or thing you lost
What you’re experiencing makes sense.
What We Do in Sessions
We’re going to start with acknowledging what you’re experiencing and how its impacting your life. Grief is painful, disruptive, and straight up frustrating. Of course it is! You get to feel however you feel.
Then we’re going to get a clearer understanding of the source of your pain. We figure out what this loss means for you, how it has changed you, and then decide how you want to move forward.
Therapy isn't about helping you forget, fix, or leave your grief behind. It's about making space for your loss and learning to integrate that loss into your life in a way that honors both what you've lost and who you're becoming.
What Getting Better Looks Like
Working through your grief allows you to validate your loss and build a future around it.
Imagine being able to talk about your loss without completely unraveling. Being able to daydream about your future and actually put plans into action. Being able to think about the person you lost with feelings other than despair.
Grief is complex. It’s different for everyone. Whether your loss was recent or happened years ago, grief shapes the way we view ourselves, others, and our life.
Clients who have done grief work describe being able to think about fond memories, not just painful ones; hold both sadness and hope; and begin to find meaning again.
Grief changes us, but you don't have to figure out how to navigate that change alone. Whether your loss happened weeks ago or years ago, therapy can help you make sense of what you're experiencing and create space for both your grief and your future.
